Food Day at the Market on Wednesday, October 24
October 21st, 2012
On Wednesday, October 24, 2012, the Devour Phoenix Restaurant Coalition and the Phoenix Public Market will celebrate Food Day, a nationwide movement focused on healthy, affordable and sustainable food with a goal to strengthen and unify the food movement in order to improve local, state and national food policies.
The Food Day event will take place during the Wednesday Open Air Market, which takes place each week at the Phoenix Public Market, 14 East Pierce Street in Downtown Phoenix from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The event will feature chef demonstrations, compost information, local growers, and kitchen on the street donations.
Chef Aaron Chamberlin of St. Francis will do a cooking demonstration showcasing locally grown produce. Food trucks at the Market that night will also serve dishes featuring produce from local farms.
A display by Nathan Williams of AZ Valley Compost will demonstrate how composting works and why it is important.
Lisa Scarpinato of Kitchen on the Street will be at the event with her food truck to collect food items for her non-profit backpack program to feed children in need. They are specifically in need of pasta and sauce, as well as other non-perishable items.
